Book Reviews

Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson

It’s been quite a while since I’ve read through a novel in just a few days, but Edenbrooke was one I couldn’t put down. Donaldson’s writing captured me from page one, and just got better and better.

As a Christian who loves a good love story, romance novels can be a tightrope walk. Some content is just best left to the imagination, or left out completely. But this is, as the cover says, a proper romance set in 1816 England. It’s the anticipation, and the excitement. It’s the longing and the misunderstandings. It’s the scandal of calling someone by their first name. What a time!

Of course, for me, the depth of character is what sealed the deal. Both our heroine, Marianne, and her love interest are layered and relatable. Though he remains a bit more mysterious to us than she does, his charm fills the page.

This is one I will read again, and I definitely recommend it.

5 stars.
