One Realm Beyond by Donita K. Paul

Paul-OneRealmBeyond     Cantor D’Ahma was born destined to be a realm walker, a protector and defender of the many worlds that exist in the universe. When he finally leaves his mentor and sets out to find his dragon, the preferred companion of realm walkers, he finds himself caught up in an adventure he hadn’t expected. Teamed up with a fellow walker, Bixby, and dragon named Bridger, who has set his sights on being Cantor’s companion, whether Cantor likes it or not, Cantor must uncover the truth about the realm walker guild, the leaders of which have become corrupt and power-hungry.

While I enjoyed the premise of the book, I found it to be a little slow. This is likely due to the fact that this is the first book of the series, and there is a lot of information to present about this new world, which is, in fact, made of many worlds. So, perhaps the second in the series will be a faster pace. I also found that I didn’t completely connect with any of the characters. They are all very well drawn out, but I never got that feeling that I wanted to follow their journey. Characters, for me, is a large part of what makes a book enjoyable, and these left me wanting just a bit more.
